Did you notice that in the first episode of season 5, Rick says to Gareth that in the bag that they hid was a machete with a red handle and he is going to use that to kill him, in episode 3 he says he made Gareth a promise (when Gareth says that Rick doesn’t have to kill them) and then he kills Gareth by using the machete with a red handle.
